Radio Dreaming

Radio-Dreaming-Banner-narro
There is an ancient Celtic tradition that the land remembers everything. Radio Dreaming explores how the land speaks through dreamers. An off-grid guide to dreaming homeplaces, Radio Dreaming whisks you over limestone hills, fragile boglands and into honeycomb caves to encounter an inspirational mythology of voices, dreams and traditional Irish music. This 6 part radio adventure takes you overground and underground in search of edible landscapes, wild dreams and the voices and myths of the land. Wild camping, kayaking and cycling their way through Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark, Anna Keleher (Devon, England) and Claire Coté (New Mexico) meet the people, places, creatures and things, whose diverse voices keep these limestone Geopark homelands alive. The last two episodes comprise “Radio Dreaming Off-Grid” and feature a variety of voices reflecting traditional and modern off-grid ideas and dreams collected from the Place-Dreamer Pod Tour return journey to the Irish Borderlands.

Radio Dreaming Episodes are 28 minutes and include:

  • Episode 1: Dreams, Food, and the Edible Landscape
  • Episode 2: Wild dreams and the Mythical Fabric of the Land
  • Episode 3: Voices of the Land and Tools for Dreaming Place
  • Episode 4: Underneath and Overneath, Dreams of Land and Water
  • Radio Dreaming Off-Grid Part 1: Practical Dreamers, the Future in Our Midst
  • Radio Dreaming Off-Grid Part 2: Shifting Patterns & Inventing Dreams

To launch the four new Radio Dreaming Episodes, Claire and Anna returned to Marble Arch Caves Geopark in the counties of Cavan (Éire) and Fermanagh  (Northern Ireland) April 25 – May 18, 2013.  Radio is a uniquely accessible and direct medium because it can be enjoyed by listeners, wherever they are, in their cars, homes and workplaces. The pod tour was designed to function in a similar way, by traveling to rendezvous with listeners in their homeplaces. Find out more about our Radio Dreaming Tour and Place-Dreamer Pod here.

Radio Dreaming Episodes 1, 2, 3, 4 and Radio Dreaming Off-Grid Parts 1 & 2 are currently being broadcast on community and art radio stations around the world.

  3. A wonderful project, reconnecting to and listening to inner/outer Nature is crucial in this time of ecological and ethical crisis. One thing I’d add though concerning the mentioned Irish potato famine is this: http://www.irishholocaust.org/thefoodremoval (it wasn’t just a natural disaster).
Also on bees, worth mentioning is that their massive decline (which can bring fruit and vegetable production to a halt) is due to the use of systemic pesticides which need to stop being used immediately: http://www.vanishingbees.com/
I know this project wasn’t an activist piece, so I add this more as a footnote than a critique, I really enjoyed listening. Peace.
